Today I’m sharing a few great first trimester outfit ideas to make you feel good during a time that is decidedly blah for many of us. I’ll also note that none of these items are actually maternity! So they’re also great for days that you want flowy tops or for taco Tuesday.
If you read my first trimester recap, then you’ll know that with this pregnancy I gained 5lbs. almost immediately and then didn’t gain any weight for the rest of the first trimester. It was weird and really different from my 1st pregnancy where I struggled to eat and didn’t gain any weight early on.
As a result, I felt like a lot of my tops just didn’t look right. Pre-pregnancy, I usually opted for a casual tee with a front tuck in to some shorts or jeans (add cardigan for winter) but that look just wasn’t working with the extra padding around my middle. So I went on a search for cheap babydoll or peplum style tops and dresses. Here’s what I found:
First up is this tiered babydoll tee from Amazon. This non-maternity top comes in at least a dozen colors and prints, plus a sleeveless and long sleeve version. It has washed well – I’ve probably washed and dried it 20+ times and it still looks great. This was definitely my favorite look throughout my first trimester. I’m 22 weeks pregnant now and this tee still works well for me and I wear it about once a week.
This peplum tee is a fantastic dupe for one at Urban Outfitters. The quality is really great and it also comes in a bunch of colors and a cute stripe. I basically wore this tee on repeat throughout my first trimester (and even now).
A word of warning: if you do accidentally put it in the dryer (like I did), it gets slightly shorter. It still fit well and didn’t shrink drastically but if I could go back and be more careful, I would.
This simple babydoll dress from Amazon was a total win. The fabric is a linen fabric and it is fully lined. The quality is really good and it comes in several colors. It is perfect for the first or second trimester of pregnancy and would be a great outfit idea for a baby shower – it comes in an adorable blush pink and in an aqua green/blue.
I have it paired here with my all-time favorite wedges. They look good with every outfit!
These are the lounge shorts of my dreams! They are from Target’s new Stars Above brand and are the softest, most comfortable lounge/sleep shorts I’ve ever worn. They basically replaced leggings for me all summer and I changed into them almost daily after dinner. They will definitely work throughout my whole pregnancy (with the waistband below the bump) and I’m sure they’ll remain a favorite postpartum.
I’ve paired them here with the Madewell Whisper Tee in the shade Ashen Silver. I got this at Plato’s Closet for $7 and sized up to a medium.
I’ve mentioned before – I don’t think these tees are worth $19. If you do buy it, I’d recommend buying it from Nordstrom because they have free shipping and returns and a better return policy than Madewell.
If you’re looking for a great v-neck pocket tee, I’d recommend the Universal Thread Monterey Pocket V-Neck Tee. It comes in a dozen colors and is on sale for $5 right now!
The jeans above are maternity and are these destroyed jeans from A Pea in the Pod. I got them on sale but they’re still kind of pricey.
I hope you find this helpful if you’re on the hunt for some flowy outfit ideas that make you feel good!
