The corporate world is pretty conservative. This isn’t news. And most days, I’m quite fine to go along with it.
I always abide by the policy: dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Most days you’ll find me in button down, dress pants or skirt, and heels (much dressier than my company requires).
So I figured, I can afford to be a bit sassy on just my fingernails. Still, I’m usually never bold enough to rock anything but a conservative pale pink.
A few days ago, I purchased this Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro nail polish in Wild Orchid for $3.77 at Walmart (I went in to ONLY buy toilet paper #fail).
It should also be noted that I almost always test the nail polish in the store. I’ll have five different colors on each finger before I decide on one. You’ve gotta know how how true the finish is to the color it looks like in the bottle. It’s not really stealing, right?
(I usually still feel a bit guilty)
I debated it for quite a few minutes. Not because I don’t love the color (because I do) but simply because I wondered if it’s appropriate for the corporate world (it isn’t).
But, to use my favorite cliché….you’re only young once.
So I went for it.
And now when I’m in my grey cube, doing corporaty-corporate stuff, I look down at my bright nails and I’m reminded of the person I really am.
The one who isn’t defined by my grey box.
It’s the little things in life, right?
