Recent Beauty Favorites

I always love reading about what beauty products bloggers use and love. I change up my beauty routine a lot, so today I’d like to share what I’m using these days (especially as we transition to summer – hello humidity!).

Recent Beauty Favorites - East &

1. Redken All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner

After years of using Pureology, I found my hair was maybe getting used to it or something and needed to change it up. I’d heard good things about the All Soft line and decided to give it a try.

I love the shampoo, probably because it isn’t sulfate-free and therefore gets nice and lathery. Unlike other shampoos with sulfates though, this has not made my scalp itchy. I do think my hair feels softer, but I don’t know that it looks softer, which I’d prefer.

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Holy Grail foundation right here. I’ve used the Double Wear and the Double Wear light and both are amazing. After our recent vacation, I was a little too tan for my Double Wear Light in 0.5 but the 1.0 was a little too pink. The original Double Wear line has more color options and I found my perfect match in 1N1 Light Ivory, a more yellow based foundation.

The thing about this foundation is that the original Double Wear is almost completely opaque. I have no idea how anyone could call this anything other than a full-coverage foundation. I apply the Double Wear Light with a beauty blender but switched to the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush for the Double Wear, as the beauty blender was giving me too much of a full coverage look.

The other great thing about this foundation is it doesn’t budge. I’m always so impressed when my face looks the same at 5pm as it did at 8am. Perfect for summer.

3. Milani Baked Blushes

As an avid reader of beauty blogs, I’ve heard people rave about this line of blushes. Somehow the Milani section of our local CVS is always really picked through so I’ve never found the shades that I’d want to try.

I popped in another CVS recently and found Milani buy one get one 50% off and fully stocked. Woo hoo!

I bought Luminoso (which is supposed to be a dupe for Nars Orgasm, though I don’t think it is) and Dolce Pink, which looked a little too sparkly but was so gorgeous I had to try it. I like the Dolce Pink better because the Luminoso is a little too peach for me (i.e. can look orange if I’m too heavy handed).

4. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose

I saw this somewhere on a beauty blog and thought it looked like a lovely cool pink. Since I’m getting out of my red lipstick wearing season (dark lips are more of a winter thing for me), I was looking for a new staple that wasn’t too bold.

I love this shade, which has been called a dupe for MAC Snob (I don’t know if it is, I’ve never bought MAC lipstick). When I first put it on, I always think it looks too Barbie pink but once it settles in a bit, it’s fabulous.

5. Covergirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Charcoal

I try other eyeliners and then I always come back to this one. It’s the easiest eyeliner to get a smooth, even line. Plus it stays put, even on humid days.

6. Cotz Face Natural SPF 40

My ultimate beauty product. A sunscreen that feels like a primer. It’s divine. I wear it every single day. I moisturize, apply sunscreen, then makeup.

7. Clinique Moisture Surge Intense

I tried and loved the original gel version (Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief) of this moisturizer but still had some patchy dryness. Once I upgraded to the intense version, those patches went away.

I ran out of this stuff a week before our vacay and in an effort to save money, I decided to try Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Water Gel, which looked like it might be similar. It’s not. I’d say it compares to the original version of this the Clinique but wasn’t strong enough for my dry skin.

8. Benzoyl Peroxide Spot Treatment 2.5%

I use this as spot treatment for pimples and have for years. I originally used the Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatmentbut now just use the CVS brand. I read that in terms of acne fighting, the 2.5% is as effective as the 10%, but is far less drying. I do find that if I spot treat with this as soon as I spot a pimple coming, it goes away before becoming anything major.

9. Banana Boat Protect and Hydrate Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50

I was actually sent this product for a sponsored post last year and absolutely loved it. I ran out of the original bottles they sent me long ago and have bought at least 3 bottles since then.

I like the feel and the smell of this product. It’s much more like lotion and doesn’t feel too sunscreeny, so it’s perfect for daily use. I also think the scent is more fresh (like cucumber?) and a little less feminine than the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration (which I also love) so I can get N to wear it too.

10. Ipsy

You guys, I freaking love Ipsy. It was the first subscription box I ever tried and every month I look forward to it. Not once have I been disappointed and I always feel the value of the products is well over the $10 I spend.

Thanks for letting me pretend to be a beauty blogger today. Now tell me, what beauty products are you loving these days?

  • I LOVE All Soft! Such a great line of products. 🙂

I’ve heard such amazing things about Estee Lauder Double Wear, but I’m so nervous to try it–my skin is pretty sensitive, so I’m afraid of dealing with breakouts if I switch from what has worked for me. Thoughts?

    • I have super sensitive skin too. I can’t use L’Oreal True Match or True Match Lumi (made me break out), Almay, anything Mary Kay (really bad rash), or Lancome foundations. The Double Wear does not make me break out. If you go to the counter, they’ll give you a 7 day sample and you can try it and see how you react before you buy it.

      • I am so glad you told me that! I will definitely have to do that. Thanks, Nadine! 🙂

  • Lauren Harrelson

Do you use anything to “set” your makeup? I’ve tried the pressed powders, unimpressed, but I haven’t found a spray that works great either. Best I’ve found is the mary kay.

    • I don’t usually. I’ve found that the Double Wear doesn’t really need anything to set but my skin is also super dry so I’m less inclined to use powder. When I do feel like I need it (on super hot days), I use E.L.F. Stuido High Definition Powder. I’ve heard it’s a dupe for Make Up Forever HD Microfinish Powder.

  • Clinique moisture surge is a necessity for me too! Nothing can beat it

    • Right? I wish I had tried it sooner. Every time I re-purchase it breaks my heart that it’s $38 but it’s totally worth it.

  • I’ve always wanted to try those Milani Baked blushes!

And thats very interesting about the benzoyl peroxide. I find that my spot treatment gets rid of acne, but leaves a big patch of dry skin. Maybe I’m using too strong of a gel.

    • Definitely give them a try. They are so pigmented, especially for a drugstore brand. You need so little that I bet they’ll last me forever.
If I use the 10% benzoyl peroxide cream (which many are), I get a big dry patch also. If I use the 2.5% and then put my usual face cream over it, I seem to have less issues with drying.

  • Jenny Madison

if you have really dry skin and want a very light coverage product for summer Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue tinted gel is awesome. Its very light coverage but set with a powder its perfect and its so gentle and soothing for my super dry skin.

    • I sampled it at the Bare Minerals store actually. I worried the coverage would be too light. I have some acne scars that I’m kind of self-concious about so I usually go for something with medium coverage. It did feel lovely on the skin though.

  • JLynn Justad

Those blush choices are beautiful! Milani is great! I love so many of their products&that they are cruelty free! x

    • I didn’t know they were cruelty free! That’s good to know. I think my next item on the list to try from them is their lipsticks. The nude creme shade looks like the perfect neutral.

  • I always see the Milani blushes @ the drugstore, but never buy. Clearly now I need to!

    • People rave about the Luminoso shade. I find it a little orange on my fair skin but if you combine it with a matte pink blush it does mimic the nars orgasm. I love love love the Dolce Pink though and it isn’t as sparkly as it looks.

  • You inspired me to re-subscribe to Ipsy! I really liked it when I first subscribed but wasn’t using a lot of products they were sending me. Now I’m more into make-up, so I’ve decided to try it again.

My current favorite beauty products are Gimme Brow and Roller Lash, both by Benefit. I also really love the Stila All-Day Liquid Lipstick, although applying it neatly takes a little practice!

    • I hesitated to get a subscription box but I did a lot of research and I feel like Ipsy is the most bang for your buck. I’m always impressed.
I’ve heard good things about Roller Lash. My best friend work the Stila All-Day Liquid Lipstick on her wedding day and it stayed put all day. I’m looking in to it cause I want to wear red lipstick on my wedding day and I don’t want to have to reapply constantly.

      • I bought it in “Fiery” and it looks great. I would recommend lining with something though, just so it won’t bleed. I feel like we have similar coloring, so I’m sure the shade would look great on you, as well!

  • I liked this post

  • I’m loving a lot recently!

    1) Pixi by Petra’s Tint and Conceal. It’s a tinter moisturizer + concealer. The price tag is slightly steep for a drugstore purchase with only 3 skin color options, but it looked like a multitasking product that would be perfect for summer. I’m really liking it! The tinted moisturizer is light weight and non-oily. It has decent stay power and the concealer makes my dark circles disappear! I consider it a win!

    2) Roller Lash Mascara. I’m a mascara junkie, so I’ve tried way too many mascaras for my own good. I have a few I consider holy grail mascaras that I return back to when there’s nothing new I want to try. I’d been hearing a lot of buzz about it and since I love Benefit’s They’re Real, I thought it’d be worth a try. It is amazing! It makes me eye lashes look SO long. One coat is perfect for the natural look and three coats is perfect for night time. I love the brush and the formulation. It’s definitely going on my holy grail list!

    3) The Balm’s Nude Dude Eye Shadow Palette. I’m especially loving the color “Fit.” I wear a lot of neutral colors and this palette is a great alternative if you’re not looking to spend $50 on a Naked Palette. Loving this!

    4) Olay Moisturizing Night Cream. Makes my skin soft and hydrated and lasts a pretty long time (~2mos with nightly or daily application for me). First moisturizer / cream that doesn’t make me too oily by the end of the day. Repurchasing my second little tub soon!

    5) Tarte’s Light, Camera, Lashes Precision Longwear Liner. First things first, I’m horrible at doing at a cat eye. This eye liner is literally fool proof for the cat eye challenged. With it’s precision tip, it makes eye liner application a breeze. One of the best eye liner application experiences I’ve had, hands down. However, the actual eyeliner could last a bit longer. I find myself needing a touch up about midday usually.

  • I don’t wear makeup like ever, but I do wear sunscreen and I’m always on the hunt to find the best sunscreen that doesn’t feel gross, so thanks for the recommend! The only beauty product I’m loving(and use on a daily basis!) is my usual Red Apple lip gloss.

  • Chelsea

I’ve been contemplating the double wear since I’m doing my own makeup for the wedding in Mexico I NEED something to stay! Will def be trying this out!
