Oh! So this is my natural hair color…

I often find myself sitting in the chair in the salon, word vomiting. It’s not that I’m impulsive (okay, maybe I am), it’s that I love change. In the last two years I’ve gone dark brunette, light reddish brown, dark blonde, and nearly platinum blonde. I’ve gotten bangs, side bangs, layers, and no layers. But this week, I went back to my roots.

Dirty Blonde Hair

You can always tell what my next hair change is from Pinterest. I’ve been pinning natural looking dirty blonde hair to my Blonde board like crazy for the past few weeks.

My stylist matched my haircolor to my dirty blonde roots and then melted it through my hair but did less on the ends. Then she added light blonde face framing highlights. It’s a little ombre but very natural looking.

Side note: Anyone else notice how your stylist tells you to do x-y-and-z and you absolutely do it (yes, m’am, coconut oil masks weekly!) but if the doctor tells you something (like mine did last week “reduce your sugar intake”) you take it as a suggestion? Oh, doctors tell everyone that. My hairstylist is talking about my hair.

I’m pretty sure this is the darkest I could go without having to change my blog name. In retrospect, I don’t love my blog name but am now far too lazy and invested to change it. Happy almost Friday, friends!

Today I am so excited to introduce you to Misty from Handbags and Handguns. Her blogs was one of the very first blogs I ever found and is one of the reasons I started this blog!

Need a great playlist to get you through this Thursday? Misty’s “20 songs that define me” playlist has all of the throwback jamz (and a couple new ones!) you need to get you through to Friday. Misty is the wife of a firefighter, mama to two cute kiddos, loves YA novels, and celebrity gossip. She also does great recaps of what the celebs wore for different awards shows and hollywood events. I always love her hilarious commentary on all the gowns. In honor of Halloween, here’s the best of celeb Halloween costumes. Want to know more about Misty? You should read more about what she believes. Then head on over to Handbags & Handguns or follow her on Bloglovin.

  • Looks great! Love!

    • Nadine

      Thank you! 🙂

  • Ola

It looks brilliant! Very flattering colour (well, you’d hope – it is after all your almost natural one). I like your blog name 😉

    • Nadine

Well thank you. Because of my blog name, I can’t be too experimental with my hair now!

  • Love the new color! I always want to change my hair color, it’s definitely fun to play around with what looks good with your skin tone, shape, etc. Plus, with the fall, it’s nice to go a little darker!

    • Nadine

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Fall is the time to do it!

  • LOVE the colour! I love the natural ombre look because it still gives you the blonde, without all the extra work!

    • Nadine

Exactly. This will be easier and cheaper to maintain. I know as soon as spring hits, I’ll want it back blonder though!

  • i just went back to my dirty blonde roots yesterday too! and my hair stylist was raving about needing to use apple cider vinegar on my hair. so obvs went and bought some on the way home

    • Nadine

Interesting. It’s supposed to make your hair shiny, right? I tried it once but didn’t notice a drastic difference. Let me know if you do!

  • So obsessed with your new hair. Makes me wanna dye mine back blonde and be all fabulous

    • Nadine

      Well thank you!

  • I am in love with your new hair color! Are you naturally a brunette or dirty blonde? I so wish I could pull of a blond”ish” look.

    • Nadine

It’s hard to say these days! My stylist says I’m dark ash blonde but that basically is light brown but with a different tone.

  • Samantha

Gorgeous! And I just went “back to my roots too” and I am way darker than I remember lol I’ll be blonde again come spring 🙂 xo

    • Nadine

I did full on brown like yours is now once. I loved it for winter but went back to blonde in the spring. Yours looks great!

  • mark

    awesome color! you look great!

    • Nadine

      Thank you!

  • I like your new color! I change my hair color all the time because I like the change, but I understand how your blog name might make you feel a little stuck. Will it stop you from going darker if you really want to?

    • Nadine

I tried going really dark once and I don’t think it’s for me but every once and a while I consider that someday I’ll try it again. And then I do feel stuck with my blog name. Oh well!

  • Hahahaha! It is SO TRUE! I follow my hairstylist’s directions to the letter. The doctor? Meh.

Love your hair. It looks great!

Also, I love Misty. I’ve been reading her blog for YEARS.

    • Nadine

Thank you! And Misty really was like the second blog I ever found. Love her.

  • I like this color! It’s great for fall/winter, too (going dark is always better for cooler weather, IMO)

    • Nadine

Thanks! It’s also a cooler color, a little more ashy which I think is great for winter.

  • i like your new color.

    • Nadine

      Thank you!

  • I am going through this same process haha My hair is currently brown but has been reddish brown, blond, etc. My natural color is like yours and I think I’m ready to go back. Did your stylist add color to your hair or strip off the color that was already there?

    • Nadine

She added color to my hair and then pulled some highlights through that. When I dyed my hair dark brown she had to slowly lighten it over many many months. It was such a process!

  • You can always change your blog to Back East Hair.

Leave it open ended for whatever you decide. Unless you have a history of mid twenty female balding in the family. Then maybe Back East Scalp.

    • Nadine

Haha I think my blog name shows my lack of creativity. Location + descriptor. Shoulda brainstormed a bit more.

  • Your hair colour looks great 🙂

  • Erin

I recently did this to my hair too! It will also save you time and money because you won’t need to get your highlights done as often! I love your blog and have been following for a while. Your sense of humor kills me! Anyways it looks great! 🙂

  • Thanks for the lovely feature. Love your hair! I am itching to change mine. Can’t quite decide what I’m going to do yet.

  • I love, love, love how the color turned out! It looks so great!
