It’s About Time

Last night, N and I saw About Time. Yes, I made my boyfriend see the most romantical romantic movie ever made. You guys, it puts The Notebook to shame. Nav’s review?

“It was good. It was quite good.”

Uh, YA. That’s the understatement of the century. It’s About Time they made a movie this perfect. Yeah, I just said that. Here are four reasons why About Time was perfection:

1. Time Travel. I think I grossly under convey how much I think about/talk about time travel in real life on this here blog. I have been obsessed with the idea for as long as I can remember. While it mildly offends me that only the men in this movie can time travel, it was awesome, none the less. They didn’t go into too much detail and ruin the magic of the idea. They simply made it beautiful.

2. Romance. Does anyone hate Rachel McAdams being the girl that the guy falls madly in love with? No, it’s impossible. You love her. Did anyone else notice that this is the second time she’s played a time travelers wife? The romance in this movie is never over the top, always sincere. I think I just sat in the theater with a stupid grin on my face the whole time.

3. A saucy ginger. Because who doesn’t love them?

4. Happy ending. Call me crazy but I have never liked a movie with a sucky ending. No, just no. I did not sit here for two hours just to be left confused or sad. I’m a happy ending person, through and through.

As we left the movie, feeling mushy and good, I kept going over the same thought in my mind. If I could travel back in time to re-live any day, which would I choose?

1. The day my brother was born. I think I’d just look at him and be like, dude, are you ready to get bossed around? We’re going to be best friends. I can’t help but think that this was the luckiest day of my life.

2. The day I met N. I’d like to say this is just to re-live it all, but the truth is, I don’t remember it! N gives me hell all the time because he vividly remembers the first time he met me and I don’t remember meeting him. I mean, I remember it but don’t remember the conversation we had or really much else aside from thinking he was cute. Girlfriend fail.

3. The day we first met Archie. Alright, we met him when he was a week old (check it out) but he wasn’t much fun then. I’d go back to the visit we had with him when he was 6 weeks old. Just because, my god he was cute as hell.

4. The time Kaylin flew from California to London to visit me for a weekend. I’d want to re-live this for the fun times. But also because, who has a friend this good? I’d been studying abroad in Paris for just over a month and she flew half way around the world to see me for two days. If that didn’t seal our best friendship, I don’t know what would. Later I found out that N was in London at the very same time, two years before we’d ever met. I think I’d try to run into him at a bar, make out with him, and not see him again until two years later when the timing was right.

What day would you re-live? And if you’ve seen About Time, are you as in love with this movie as I am?

Today I am so excited to introduce you to Katie from The Style Dunce.

Katie is too and her post about shy people is charming and oh so true. But if there is one post you need to read, it’s what Katie would tell her niece (if she wasn’t 4). It’s hysterical, accurate, and heartwarming advice for women of all ages. Want to see more of Katie? Follow her on Bloglovin for your daily dose of dunce.

  • Ah this looked so good (based on commercials). And you’re right- how can anyone NOT like Rachel McAdams?!

  • I would love to go back and relive when my little bro was born too! And I love Rachel McAdams and can’t wait to see this!

  • So jealous you saw it before it came out! I definitley need to drag the boyfriend to see it this weekend. Although, I usually am not a fan of time-travel and fake things like this. I hope I’m impressed! :/

    • Nadine

I didn’t think it was before it came out, it’s playing at our local theaters. If you like romantic, sweet, heartwarming movies, you’ll be able to overlook the time travel if that isn’t your thing.

  • I was going to watch it at an advanced screening a few weeks before it was released, but I passed. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be good or not. However, I loved the trailer and love Rachel McAdams! I’ll definitely have to watch this one then!

    • Nadine

It’s definitely worth seeing. It’s made by the same guy that made Notting Hill and Love Actually and I really think if you loved those, you’ll love this.

  • I think I’d relive the first day of my daughter’s life. Not the actual being born part, the part when she was here and all clean and swaddled. (I don’t really ever want to relive the other part.) I’d also like to relive any one day with my grandpa, that man was wise. I really can’t wait to see this movie, I’ve loved the previews. Thanks for such a great review.

    • Nadine

That’s really sweet. I loved the preview and was worried it wouldn’t live up to them, but it totally did!

  • Mary A

I saw About Time last night and I loved it! I think my husband even liked it. My favorite thing about the movie was that Ben Folds’ song “The Luckiest” was playing in the background throughout the whole movie. The entire time I’m nudging my husband saying that song was the song that was playing. Finally, at the end of the movie the lyrics start to come in, and I was like “I AM RiGHT!” Of course, he tells me to shut up because I am now ruining the movie for everyone else in the theater. And now I’m bawling because I love that song and the movie is so cute, and perfect, and happy, and sad all at the same time.

Rachel McAdamas is beautiful and her husband in the movie has the most wonderful red hair. Everyone should see this movie. It was wonderful.

    • Nadine

Loved this! I didn’t notice the music much, if you can believe that. I’ll have to listen to that song now. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who loved this.

  • I so want to see this and I was definitely thinking about how she has now played a time traveler’s wife twice and how she always seems to fall in love with good looking men 🙂

    • Nadine

Her job definitely doesn’t suck. She’s made out with Ryan Gosling, Eric Bana, Channing Tatum, and now this saucy ginger whose name I don’t know. And she got paid for it. Clearly I chose the wrong career path.

  • Ahhh I saw the previews for this the other night and I so want to see it! Puts the Notebook to shame? You have me more excited than ever.

  • Megan

Have you seen Time Traveler’s Wife? I loved that movie and really want to know if It’s About Time is different. I’m probably still going to see it either way though…

    • Nadine

I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife and I actually own it. It is VERY different. This whole movie starts off on a very sweet, romantic note and it keeps that throughout. They don’t go in to the issues with time travel and the movie does a Love Actually type thing where it tries to portray a bigger message about life. Just trust me, it’s different but lovely.

  • I’ve been on the fence about wanting to see this – I think you’ve convinced me! Does seem silly that she’s been a time traveler’s wife twice, though, doesn’t it? I suppose she can do no wrong. 🙂

  • So jealous you got to see it early! We are going to try and go this weekend and I can’t wait!

    • Nadine

I’m so confused. It’s just playing at the theater by my house so I didn’t think I saw it early but from these comments, I guess I did. Crazy!

  • Can’t wait to see this movie!! Love Rachel Adams!

  • Stephanie

If you love time travel, I highly recommend the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon! Great reads, full of romance and time travel! 🙂

    • Nadine

OOh yay! I always love book recommendations, thank you. I’ll add that to my list!

  • Being a saucy ginger is awesome! (I am a redhead). I never seen this movie or time travelers wife either. I am not sure if I will but I love how you wrote this post. I remember the first day I saw my bf but not our first convo so don’t feel bad.

    • Nadine

Two of my siblings are redheads and I love it. If you aren’t in to mildly sappy movies, this might not be for you. I’m a sucker for a romantic comedy.

  • I haven’t seen the movie yet! I wanna see it now! and I love some Rach McA..something about her that’s captivating.
    Carla @ Love Cartista

  • Hi! I love your blog! And I can’t WAIT to see this movie. My hubby showed me the preview for this a couple months ago, saying “this looks right up your alley!” I mean, love story + time travel + Rachel Mc Adams = Win.

    • Nadine

I was with my bf when I saw the preview and he just looked at me and was like, yup, that movie is perfect for you. And it really was.

  • I’m also obsessed with time travel and before I knew anything about this movie, the mere fact that they could time travel (and that Rachel McAdams was in it) was enough to make me want to see it. Glad to hear you liked it! Maybe I can talk the husband into seeing it this weekend if I promise him apple pie or something… 😉

    • Nadine

We do a trade off deal. I see some crazy action movie with him and he owes me a sappy romantic comedy. But the time travel got him curious too. I loved it.

  • I have been obsessed with About Time. I haven’t seen it yet, but I am dying to. Every single time the commercial comes on, I make everybody be quiet so I can watch. I’m seeing the movie this weekend and am beyond excited!

    • Nadine

Come back and tell me if you liked it! You will.

  • Couldn’t agree more! I love love love this movie! I want to see it again and again and again!

    • Nadine

I literally just told my bf that I think I’m going to see it again on Saturday. The way they timed it, I bet it’s out on video by February 14th. It’s a purchase for sure.

  • Katie (@TheStyleDunce)

Haven’t seen About Time, but I too would probably go back to the first time I met my boyfriend to remember details better and probably to one of the perfect days I had when living in Australia. Also, I don’t think I know a person who doesn’t like Rachel McAdams. (p.s. thanks for the feature!)

  • I so want to see this and I am insanely jealous of all the bloggers who got to go early and free! Hook a girl up!

    • Nadine

I 100% did not get to see this early or for free. Okay, that’s a lie. N paid for my ticket so it was free to me but this was totally unrelated to blogging. It was just playing at my local theater and I was excited to see it so we went on Tuesday night.

    • Mary A

I did get to see the move for free, but I actively look for free screenings online and enter contests daily to win tickets. Try or just Google “free movie screening” and your city. is also a good place to look, too, to get free passes. Good luck!

      • Nadine

Wow I totally never knew that! I’ll definitely be checking that out.

  • Ooo, definitely excited about seeing this movie now! 🙂

  • So pumped to see this movie. Basically I just want to see Bill Weasley again.

    • Nadine

I had NO idea that he was Bill Weasley until you said this. Holy shit.

  • I really want to see this movie! It looks fantastic!

I don’t know what day I’d want to relive. That’s a tough one. Probably the first day I saw the Eiffel Tower. That made me all kinds of happy.

    • Nadine

Oooh same. That ones up there for me too. Talk about fulfilling a life long dream!

  • Dee

I love love love this movie! Totally exceeded my expectations. I came in expecting just a light rom com but it was so much more than that. I’d love to watch it again and again.

    • Nadine

Same. I definitely will re-watch this 100 times.

  • I have been wanting to see this movie so I’m glad you gave it a great review!!! Now I’m even more excited to see it!

  • I would have bugga all getting Tim to watch such a movie……………….lol

    • Nadine

I have to see Thor in the theater this weekend as pay back. We trade off who picks the movie.

  • Seriously though, can no one other than Rachel McAdams be in a time traveling romance? It looks good though, I really want to see it! And I totally agree on the happy ending thing. Ever see The Breakup? Whoever thought a movie about a breakup was a good idea has a terrible life.

    • Nadine

It’s like we should have known that that was exactly what was going to happen in the movie but it wound up just doing exactly that and being really sad. Terrible movie idea.

  • I have been trying to convince my boyfriend to take me to see this movie. He agreed but only after we see Thor.

But oh my goodness, your 4th moment to relive is too crazy! The fact that N was in London at the same time and you hadn’t met blows my mind. (I’m a sucker for stories like these!)

    • Nadine

I have to see Thor this weekend as payback for making him see About Time.

I never really think it’s that crazy of a story that we were in the same place at the same time but I guess it is. We met at the right time though and I’m thankful for that.

  • Time travel would be magical!

    Sparkles and Shoes

  • I can’t wait to see this movie- I have been hearing left & right how amazing it was from people who went to the prescreenings! I had tickets but never went 🙁 boo!

    • Nadine

Poor decision! It’s so good. Buy some tickets and go see it for sure. I love love loved it.

  • i was hoping this would be better than the time traveler’s wife – looking forward to seeing it!

    • Nadine

      It’s very different but better.

  • Yes! I walked out of the movie going ‘This movie is THE best!’ I loved all of it!

  • This made me laugh – hubs can crystal-clearly remember our first meeting (I was with an ex who introduced us as mutual friends) but I only have a vague recollection of that meeting.

  • I cannot wait to see this movie!! Also, we need a post about the first time you and N met!

  • Okay so you have talked me into going and seeing the movie plus I just watched the preview for it.

  • I saw this movie with my sister and loved it! Rachel McAdams is flawless.

  • Hey Nadine, I deliberately put off reading your post until I watched the movie and I actually blogged about it as well.. I really enjoyed the movie but don’t think it rivals The Notebook.. I really liked the movie and your review, despite our differing opinions 🙂
    x Nats

  • I saw this movie last weekend and absolutely loved it. I did a review on my blog and called it “It’s About Time” too 🙂 Great minds think a like. You had a great idea to think about times you would like to travel back to. I agree, you can’t hate Rachel McAdams. It’s impossible. Domhnall Gleeson is my new crush! I’m totally in love with him.
