Everyday Makeup Routine

Everyday Makeup

You know how some bloggers have a FAQ section? It nearly always contains the question “what makeup do you use?” This post was inspired by those, except that not a single person has ever asked me that question. Whatever, I’m going to try not to be offended and I’m going to tell you any ways. Sometimes you just have to be that girl.

Recently I’ve been trying to make the switch to using more cruelty-free products. Since I’m a vegetarian and an animal lover, it’s just the natural next step for me. I’m still clinging on to a few old favorites as I slowly find new products to replace them with. Here’s what I’m using now:

Foundation: I have simultaneously dry and acne prone skin. It’s just lovely. For days when my skin is visibly dry, I use the Revlon ColorStay Makeup for Normal/Dry Skin (I use the shade called Buff). It does a great job of not emphasizing the dryness or getting weird and peely. When my skin is being normal, I prefer the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation because it provides good coverage but doesn’t feel makeupy. I apply both of these with this EcoTools Custom Coverage Buffing Brush. I wish I had discovered how easy foundation application could be sooner! This brush is perfect for lazy applicator/makeup dummies like myself to get a great finish with minimal effort. The pushy Ulta lady tried to sell me the Tarte brand $30 version of that thing but oh-hell-no I’m not paying more than a couple bucks for a brush. EcoTools rock and they are reasonably priced.

Concealer: I only use concealer under my eyes. Beauty bloggers rave about the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Treatment Concealer (duh, that’s why I bought it) and it’s pretty freakin awesome. I use the Buffing brush to rub it in. Probably Definitely the wrong way to do that but I don’t care.

Blush: My newest favorite beauty product is the NYX Illuminator in Chaotic. Reminds me of Nars Orgasm, which I have always been too cheap to buy. It’s just slightly shimmery but not obnoxious so you look all glowy and not all 7th-grader-got-carried-away-with-glitter.

Eyes: Let’s start with a story. One time I clamped my eyelash curler down on my eyes and all my eyelashes broke off and were just sitting pathetically on the curler. Ho. Ly. Fuuu. Took a solid 3 months to grow back. And that, my friends, is why I do not use waterproof mascara anymore. It’s so drying! Naturally (because I’m dellusional) I didn’t blame the fact that I curl my eyelashes every chance I get. I’ve had my Revlon Eyelash Curler since I was like 19. Still use it errryday.

Back to eye makeup though. This E.L.F. eyeliner is $1 and it goes on smooth and easy. It even comes with the sharpener. Score. I also recently purchased this Maybelline Volum’ Express The Rocket Mascara. It’s not quite Benefit They’re Real Mascara but it gets the job done. My usual go-to is L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara because of its non-clumping and curl holding power but I like to try new mascaras and am easily distracted by the pretty colored tubes.

So that’s my beauty routine. Sometimes I switch it up and wear a BB cream, sometimes I just do concealer and mascara. I rarely wear eyeshadow because I still haven’t perfected the “darker color in the crease” situation. Maybe I’ll go ahead and add that to my 30 before 30 list. I’m 25. My lack of beauty skills are pretty pathetic.

Have any amazing products I should try? Have you considered switching to cruelty-free products? Tarte, NYX, and E.L.F. are all cruelty-free!
