don’t judge a city by its football team

Before I came to Pittsburgh, I was fairly certain that all I’d find here is steel mills and and a lot of yellow. This is obviously based on the only thing I knew about Pittsburgh at all: The Steelers.

It’s the same reason I assume all men in Boston are good looking and preppy.
(Tom Brady)
And that Philly is a city that’s a little rough around the edges.
(Eagles embracing Michael Vick)
Although I know that to be true.

And wouldn’t ya know?
I was dead wrong about Pittsburgh.

Check out these snapshots I grabbed from the rental car:

It was truly charming.
They call it the city of bridges.
Okay, maybe they weren’t so creative with that one.

Pittsburgh, I’m sorry I misjudged you.
You were everything I never thought you would be.
Small town feel in a big city.
Oh-so green.
And mountains!
Thanks for teaching my not to judge a city before I visit.
With love,

I haven’t been to Pittsburgh… but when I was in Boston last winter, the place was CRAWLING with preppy, handsome men. I’m kind of sad I didn’t end up moving there. My husband was okay with it, though. 😉

    • Oh don’t even get me started on Boston. I do love it there. And they do have more than their fair share of preppy, handsome men, I must agree.

  • These pictures make me miss Pittsburgh so much! I went to college for two years there and had a blast. Good people, good food, good times 🙂

    • Thats exactly how it seemed to me. I really enjoyed my time there.

  • Isn’t it so great?! I’ve lived in PA my whole life, but I’ve never been to Pittsburgh…how awful is that?! I’m definitely going to have to take a road trip there in the near future. Hope you had a great time!

    • It is much prettier than Philly, I must say. I think it’s definitely worth the trip.

  • how pretty! I’ve yet to go out there but I’d love to if possible

    • I just love seeing new places in the US. I want to see as much as I can here because I know there are so many hidden gems in our country.

  • SO funny- I wrote a super similar post to this one over two years ago!

Poor Pittsburgh with it’s bad rep!!

    • Oh my gosh! Your post and my post could be best friends. We had such similar expectations of Pittsburgh (low) and it totally exceeded them.

  • I’m so happy to read this!!! I moved to Pittsburgh from midway between NYC and Philly and I LOVED it there!! I actually stayed 5 years after I graduated and would have gladly lived there infinitely if my hubby hadn’t gotten a job in Atlanta. It really is such a wonderful place and I wish more people knew that! Thumbs up to your post helping to spread the word. 🙂

    • Oh, and I also see you were near my alma mater, PITT – that first picture has the Cathedral of Learning and a Towers dorm (where I lived as a freshman) in it!!! And Pittsburgh also has the second highest number of bridges of any city in the world – coming in only behind Venice. 🙂 (I was a tour guide all 4 years in college….is that obvious??)
